Deputy Head of the Special Investigation Service, first class counselor of justice Armen Nadiryan took part in the Regional Stock-Taking Conference in Strasbourg.
Five countries, namely Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Ukraine, participated in the conference on Investigation of Serious Human Rights Violations by Law-Enforcement Officials, organized by the European Union and the Council of Europe.
The aim of the conference was to discuss the European and international standards for effective investigation and prosecution of allegations of ill-treatment as well as to report on the progress achieved by the partner countries in the last two years within the framework of the fight against ill-treatment and impunity.
According to Armen Nadiryan, the representatives of the conference participant countries reported on the national experiences in the fight against ill-treatment and the national mechanisms for the investigation of related cases.
“It is worth mentioning that international institutions have positively evaluated the fact that, unlike the other countries of the region, namely Georgia and Azerbaijan, in the Republic of Armenia the investigation of cases with respect to ill-treatment by officials is conducted by the Special Investigation Service, which functions independently of any administrative control,” said Deputy Head of the Special Investigation Service Armen Nadiryan.
