Preliminary Investigation of Jewelry Store Attempted Robbery Committed by Gyumri Police Officers Completed
2013-09-23

The Special Investigation Service has finished the preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated according to the RA Criminal Code, Article 34-177, part 3, point 1, with respect to some RA police officers for jewelry store attempted robbery.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the Criminal investigation unit deputy head of Mush division of Gyumri city police of Shirak provincial department, police captain Hrayr Kalashyan entered into a preliminary agreement with the senior security officer of the same unit, police captain Artak Baghdasaryan to commit a theft. Equipped with sports hats suited for masked robbery, a hammer and other equipment, Hrayr Kalashyan and Artak Baghdasaryan went to “Rubin” Jewelry Store in Khaghaghutyan Oghak Street, 8 at about 04.20 am, August 5, 2013. There they broke the windowpanes of the front door with a hammer and an axe and went into the store, but didn’t manage to complete the robbery regardless of their criminal intent, because there was no jewelry in the pavilions. Moreover, noticing a police car in service on the premises, they tried to escape but were arrested by the police and brought to Kumayri division of Gyumri city police. Detention was chosen as a precautionary measure with respect to the accused Hrayr Kalashyan and Artak Baghdasaryan at the pretrial stage of the criminal case.
Having completed the preliminary investigation, the investigator has submitted the criminal case with the bill of indictment to the prosecutor supervising the proceedings to be confirmed and sent to court.

Notice: A person suspected or accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proved guilty in the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of RA by the effective court judgement.
