Experts of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, who arrived to Armenia in the scope of anti-corruption improvements mission have met today Mr. Sasun Khachatryan, the head of the RA Special Investigation Service; the experts presented professional activities of respective bodies and anti-corruption mechanisms in different countries, particularly, in Poland, Moldova and Serbia.
Having referred to the functions of the Special Investigation Service and works within the scope of the anti-corruption, Mr. Sasun Khachatryan, the head of the RA Special Investigation Service presented the experts results of investigation of a number of criminal cases of public hearing investigated in the Service, mentioning that more than a half of cases investigated during the previous year referred to the crimes of corruption character. Sasun Khachatryan mentioned that despite of a huge works, the investigators of the service managed to assure positive results, particularly, during 2018 the size of recovered amounts on criminal cases was unprecedented.
According to Sasun Khachatryan, a large volume investigation was held on criminal cases of illegal enrichment of former officials and money laundering, including more than thirty investigation requests were sent to other countries for disclosure of assets owned by the said persons. At the same time, having referred to the organization of more effective works for the purpose of recovery of assets, including development of issues on investigation requests, the head of the Service attached importance to the best practice to be applied in the works.
The experts expressed their willingness to assist legislative improvements and investigations to be performed through projects and different trainings.
